The idea of "To What Extent" is asking that the answer discuss how one element is greater in validity than others. All “evaluate the extent.” The College Board attempts to guide students into writing a thoughtful, sophisticated analysis of historical events. “To what extent” questions are examining the way you look at a situation so that you can come to a conclusion. It is not – as is sometimes thought by students – asking whether you outright agree or disagree with the idea. Then, in order to make it a to what extent question, an easy way to do that is to bring in other contributing factors, thus showing how the thing was not the sole contributor. This should be done throughout your essay by producing counter arguments and concluding the overall significance of factors through 'Mini judgements' at the end of each paragraph.In your conclusion, be sure to mention the specific factor included in the question. This shows that you can look at evidence and give a balanced argument and that your conclusion discusses the main reasons for the event from both sides.
